My diapers looked clean after the first wash.  The smell on the other hand was not quite right.  They didn’t smell clean plus my son’s overnight diapers STINKED this morning so there was no improvement in that area.  I have thought of some possible reasons why…

1. I had the faint ammonia smell on my diapers before using Mountain Green.
2. I may not have used enough detergent.  I only used about 1/2 ounce, which is half the recommended amount on the box.
3. I may not have rinsed well enough.  I had attempted only one rinse.

I am not giving up quite yet.  I am going to strip my diapers later this afternoon.  This should help me remove any buildup or residue that may be left on them.  Changes I will make to my next regular was include  using the recommended amount of detergent and checking to see if their are suds in the rinse cycle. If there are suds, I will add an extra rinse to see if that can resolve the suds issue.

I know all of this may sound complicated but my hope in the end is to find a detergent can allow me to simplify my routine.

As a cloth diapering mom, I have always been told to steer clear of  popular detergent brands.  Why? Detergent brands, such as Tide, contain enzymes that can build up causing rashes and odors.  Sounds logically right?  Well, cloth diaper companies such as Drybees encouraging consumers to use these popular detergents.  If you use a work-at-home mom (WAHM) brand or other brands such as Charlies Soap, you may void your diaper’s warranty.  What is a woman to do?  Throwing all caution into the wind, I am going to do my own trial starting with Mountain Green.  I have collected all my diapers so tonight marks day 1.  I am going to continue with my normal wash pattern, which includes a cold prewash, then wash hot with gentle liquid detergent and ends with an extra rinse.  Check back to hear about my results!
